ADFD invests Dhs35.3 billion in Africa

Over the past 40 years, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has invested Dhs35.3 billion in sustainable projects across 42 African nations, aiding them in achieving their developmental goals. In 2023, ADFD was a vital partner in a UAE-led Dhs16.5 billion initiative to boost Africa's clean energy infrastructure. This collaboration with Africa50, a pan-African investment platform, aims to bridge the continent's infrastructure funding gap by facilitating project development and mobilizing public and private sector finance. Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, ADFD Director-General, emphasised the UAE’s commitment to supporting African nations in their pursuit of economic and social progress. Over the last decade, he said, ADFD has made significant contributions to infrastructure development, economic diversification, and unlocking the full potential of African economies. ADFD funded the Mohamed bin Zayed Solar PV Complex in Togo's Blitta province with AED55 million, providing 50 MW of sustainable electricity to over 158,000 households and SMEs. ADEX partnered with Togo's Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2022 to increase the park's capacity to 70 MW and install a 4 MW-hour solar energy storage system, boosting energy sustainability and climate resilience.
